Questions for the committee

  1. Back issues retention .  Should we reduce the retention of periodical collection back files?...  If so, to what?  3 years?  less than 3 years? for all current subscriptions?  only for subscriptions available online?  etc.  See below for link to 2005 serials use.

  2. Are the periodical collections in general too big?
  3. Do we need the scholarly print subscriptions if they're duplicated online?
  4. Now that a 3 year retention period has been approved, shall we extend those titles kept for less than 3 years to match the rest of the collection?

No.  For teachers.  PW

Everyday Food: from the kitchens of Martha Stewart living 10 18.00 www.everydayfoodmag.com   several other system libraries own
Farm Collector: dedicated to the preservation of vintage farm equipment 12 29.95 www.farmcollector.com

I liked this.  It's different, and we do have a good size representation of farm folks in our service area.  Let's try it.  KP

I also like this one there is very good information there are collectors in this area.  KB

This magazine is different from anything we have and Wisconsin is a farming state.  SH

Yes.  Good for collectors (we get questions on this in ref sometimes).  I noticed in one of the write-in areas that a lot of responses were from the mid-west area--several WI including a neenah resident.  I think we should get this. PW

Food & Wine 12 37.00 www.foodandwine.com

Another cooking magazine?  Do we have to? KP

We have so many.  KB

We already receive a lot of cooking magazines. do we need this one?  SH

Just okay, we don't really need.  PW

Garden Gate 6 24.00 www.gardengatemagazine.com

Pretty, and has real how-to things.  Sure.  KP

Looks good maybe we could look at what we have also.  KB

This magazine had a lot of useful information for gardeners.  SH

I really liked this one.  Lots of colorful photos, good tips and gardening info.  Lack of ads a plus.  Lets add it.  PW

Golfweek 45 79.95 www.golfweek.com

Green Source 4 19.95 greensource.construction.com
Guideposts: true stories of hope and inspirations 12 16.97 www.guidepostsmag.com Ebsco .pdf

Maybe. Reminds me a little bit of chicken soup for the soul.  Not really for me, but patrons might like it. PW

Lots of people get it at home, and it's available at every church I've ever been in, but I agree, patrons would pick it up and read it here.   KP

Her Sports & Fitness: 6 29.94 www.hersports.com
Home Shop Machinist 7 29.95 www.homeshopmachinist.net

NO.  Anyone who does this gets their own. KP

I liked this for just the opposite reason, someone newly interested in this hobby would find this very useful.  MN

?  SH

I'm leaning towards No.  It seems a little too advance for a beginner (to me) and if some really get into the hobby they would probably get it themselves.  PW

Kids on Wheels 4 14.95 www.kidsonwheels.com/
Lego Brickmaster Magazine 6 36.94

It has patterns!  YES!  KP  Children's?

Do we have room in childrens for another lego magazine?  SH

Yes! I love Legos and this one does have a few patterns in it...but does children's want it?  PW

Making Music: better living through recreational music making 6 30.00 www.makingmusicmag.com

 No. too narrow.  KP

Mammoth Tales 4 25.00 www.iceagetrail.org
Motocross: action magazine 12 19.98 www.hi-torque.com

Hmmm.  Seems like mostly ads to me.  No.  KP

There is alot of interest in this.  KB

There are a lot of people in Wisconsin are active in motocross.  SH

Yes.  Even with all the ads this answers a lot of questions, gives info about equip., riders, etc.  I'm not a fan but if it is a popular sport in WI I think for cost we can try it. PW

Natural Life 6 36.00 www.life.ca Ebsco .pdf 1996-

Yup.  LOTS of current interest  KP

Probably.  Going "green" is very popular right now--if possible it would be nice to see a hard copy before saying yes.  PW

New American 26 39.00 www.newamerican.com

 Possible.  Shake 'em up!  KP

I thought this was interesting and it covers a wider range of disablities then Active Living, maybe second tier choice?  PW

Reason: free minds and free markets 11 38.50 www.reason.com Ebsco HTML 1994-

Interesting.  A perspective I don't think we offer now...but still probably no. KP

This magazine add some interesting articles.  SH

Interesting magazine.  Maybe a second tier consideration if we have extra money.  PW

Sailing world 9 28.00 www.sailingworld.com Ebsco 1995-2002

No  no more boating ones.  KB

We do seem to have several boating magazines.  Do they all circ well? Should we consider getting ride of any? We probably don't need this one.  PW

We declined on this one before, it's a bit beyond our usual clientele..  NO.  KP

Sheyboygan Press 365 182.64  www.sheboygan-press.com

We do get some requests, but not $200 worth.  KP

Maybe we could look at what we are getting for newspapers that are from that way and replace it with one of those.  KB

Is there enough demand for this newspaper?  SH

Not necessary.  PW

We do receive another vegetarian magazine is  his magazine better than that one?  SH

Checked with CR (vegetarian)--she thought our current one was better.  This one is has lots of articles/advocacy, but not very many reciepes.  Expressed an interest in finding a Vegetarian magazine that concentrated on reciepes and info for the "everyday" vegetarian--not so heavy on the issues.  Any Suggestions? There were 3 Periodial requests on Ref's July Unanswered Ref Question list. They were:
1. Cast On
2. Journal of Personnel Evaluations in Education
3. Educational Research and Methods

I looked up Cast On, which looks like a knitting magazine which is a pretty popular subject. I added it to our chart--Is there anyway Michael can get us a copy for review?

The other two sound very academic (I didn't look them up). I didn't add them to the chart either. PW
